At first it seems like a welcoming word, Including, inviting, accommodating, After all, it indicates an opening, An ability for those outside to come in. But have you also thought of the fact, That the only reason why such word exists, Is because this world is designed, To keep some in, while others are left out? All of the thresholds that beckon us near, Were created to keep the rest of them away. For every entrance that seems so warm, Certainly gave cold-shoulder, unwelcome stay. For every entrance is an equivalent exit, In many cases they are one and the same, And if it requires an invitation to come, It means, it used to not be the same way since.
#TinySpringPoem with Beth Kempton | Day 5
Reflection:
Have you ever thought about the irony of doors and entrances and the many people who were and are still not allowed go through? Privilege is curious. You never know you have them unless someone points them out to you.
