I really like this as a tool to understand the connection between habit and triggers. By closely monitoring our shifting levels of stress with time of day and activity, we can create habits that support our wellbeing. Thank you for this! Making me think of Atomic Habits (James Clear).

Hello Charlene! Now that you mentioned it, it does inherit principles from behavioral science. I am glad you were able to connect it to habit formation. The idea is, if we do monitor closely and realize that our stress levels do go down, ideally we would have more motivation to continue doing it. Thank you for reading!!!

I try to balance movement with intentional rest. For instance sitting to make art vs actively teaching a workshop, exercise vs cooking, quiet walk with meditation vs online course teaching. I become stressed once I slip into scarcity. Scarcity affects my entire sense of well being. Focusing on balance helps me to maintain calm and clarity. When I see scarcity as a coping mechanism and tool to keep myself just under my potential, the balance of my good habits can bounce me back into gratitude and abundance mindset.

Great post! I have a practice of checking in with my stress during the day but have never plotted it before. Definitely something to try out. Also, I’ve made a few mood playlists (including ‘songs to cry to’) that help set the mood for some of those recovery activities that they outline in the book. It’s nice to have a go-to when you need it, especially as a physician who often deals with end-of-life.

You definitely need those playlists. I do have mine too on the ready. For someone in tech, like me, meetings are back to back so a recovery practice is to avoid back to back meetings and have time to listen to music even just for a few minutes.

I love to break up the work from home day with walks and writing breaks.I can relate to what you share.I like to incorperate dance breaks in my work from home day.If I am working outside i love to take the less often taken route as my commute.
